May Business@Lunch

This luncheon will honor our Leadership Bixby Class IX Graduates as they receive recognition for their accomplishments. Leadership Bixby is a 7-session program, sponsored and coordinated by the Bixby Metro Chamber of Commerce, to identify, educate and develop a select group of Bixby citizens for positions of community leadership.

The program’s principal goal is to build a resource of community leadership on a planned, continuing basis with four specific objectives:

  • To identify potential community leaders.
    .
  • To expand the leadership potential of participants by increasing their knowledge of Bixby and the critical issues that face the community and to introduce participants to present community leaders.
    .
  • To improve communications between present and future leaders.
    .
  • To provide a channel for those not presently in leadership roles to gain access to positions of community leadership in an informed and responsible manner.

Motivation Stops with Leadership!

We will also hear from Roger Chasteen, a community leader, co-owner of Advantage Motors of Oklahoma and president of Yorkshire Publishing. Roger has a grasp of complex business issues, a commitment to excellence, a passion for people and a desire to improve those around him.

Bixby Bond Issue Passes with an Overwhelming Majority

Story from staff reports of Bixby Bulletin

“Final tallies for our 2011 City of Bixby G.O. Bond Issue election show all four measures passed by overwhelming majorities, with the average margin of victory being 71%. Passage of this $10 million bond package – which will not raise taxes –  represents a very important, positive step forward for our community,” says Doug Enevoldsen, city manager.

“It will enable us to re-invest in and build upon our existing streets, parks, and public safety infrastructure assets. And in so doing, it will help us keep pace with our rapidly growing population and maintain our community’s attractive quality of life.”

“The bond package clearly responded to our voters’ wishes for their community, as evidenced by the large majorities of support it commanded at the polls. And that was no accident. Our City Council listened carefully to the people and designed a solid package that will help us accomplish a lot of good for Bixby in the coming years. This election also sends a very clear signal to the region that Bixby is indeed a progressive community that’s on the move, one which values its high quality of life, and one which believes in its future.”

Bonds Help Suburbs Grow

Story by LaToya Silmon of KTUL.com

Bixby’s Bentley Park is kid approved, so much so that it’s become a destination spot.  “We don’t have a really nice park like this in Broken Arrow where he can just run and there’s so many things to do,” Melissa Flower told News Channel 8.

Bixby’s city manager says the attraction is by design.  It’s part of a 20 million dollar bond issue passed in 2006.  Street widening projects at key intersections are the latest part of the master plan to improve the area. Tuesday night voter’s overwhelmingly approved 10 million dollar bond to pay for them and for good reason.  The suburbs are booming.  Sheila Lewis says her family left T-town six years ago, and Tulsa native Gina Ousley plans to do the same soon.  She currently lives in Broken Arrow.

The motivation to move to surrounding areas isn’t child’s play.  “We wanted to be in Bixby’s school system,” Ousley said.

$10-Million Bixby Bond Package To Improve Parks, Roads, & Safety

Story by Kerri Gift of KTUL.com

According to the U.S. Census, Bixby is the fastest growing community in the Tulsa metro.

And that’s why a vote next Tuesday is considered so important.

A bond package worth $10-million is on the ballot.

It will pay for public safety and improved intersections, including one at 131st and Mingo.

It will increase traffic flow to a new elementary school that’s being built nearby.

And best of all, Bob Enevoldsen, Bixby City Manager, says, approval will not increase taxes.
