Story by Susan Bevard found on Bixby

Judy Evans, Bixby, was installed as governor of Oklahoma District of Optimist International at Hard Rock Hotel Aug. 13, 2011. Evans will be governor for the 2011-2012 year, overseeing 34 clubs with over 700 members in the district. The Oklahoma district provides over $10,000 in scholarships through Optimist International programs.

The Bixby Optimist Club is one of the most recognized Optimist clubs internationally and has had multiple officers at the district level for several years.

Past governor, Don Crall, spoke to the club at their August 11 meeting saying that much is expected of the Bixby club in the coming year, including the starting of a number of clubs in the Tulsa area.

Area Chamber of Commerce Sign Pact

Story By Laurie Winslow found on

The Tulsa Metro Chamber and five other area chambers of commerce were scheduled to sign a commitment Friday to collaborate on regional economic growth.

Starting in the morning and concluding with an afternoon ceremony at the Mayo Hotel, Tulsa Metro Chamber officials will meet with representatives of chambers of commerce from Bixby, Jenks, Sapulpa, Sand Springs and Owasso to formally sign a regional economic development compact.

Regionalism is necessary in today’s economic climate, said Mike Neal, president and CEO of the Tulsa Metro Chamber, in written comments.

“This is a global marketplace and we are no longer in competition with other same-sized cities,” he said. “We are competing with other regions in the U.S. and in the world. Therefore, our competitive focus should not be within our own region.”

The announcement of the multichamber compact follows…

Tulsa Area Chambers Agree to Work Together

Story by Ian Silver found on Fox

Chambers of commerce for six Tulsa-area cities have signed a compact with the Tulsa Metro Chamber of Commerce to collaborate and work together for economic growth.

Chambers in Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Jenks, Bixby, Broken Arrow and Owasso signed the compact with Tulsa Friday.

The idea came during a trip several of the chamber leaders took last year, when they saw how cities across the Louisville, Kentucky area came together and created one of the most successful regional economic growth engines in the country.

If it worked there, why not here?

“It was Broken Arrow that first said let’s get compacts going this year,” Tulsa Metro Chamber Chairman Dr. Gerry Clancy said. “And so we’ve started, starting back in April. And then today really picking up speed with it.”

For smaller cities…
