Push for Downtown Bixby Redevelopment

Story by Lindsey Morehead found on

When 160 soccer teams descend on Bixby April 27 to compete in the OK Texans Friendship Cup at Bentley Park Sports Complex, Mayor Ray Bowen will see the same thing he sees at every local tournament: opportunity.
“I just checked with the Hampton and Holiday Inns and they’re booked up completely for the tournament,” Bowen said. “Rooms in Bixby are gone, and nine hotels in Tulsa are booked up, too.”
Last year, 648 teams took the field at Bentley Park, bringing nearly 24,000 visitors to Bixby and more than $1 million – and that’s just for competitive baseball, the only sport that tracks its numbers. Throw in softball, soccer and youth recreational baseball, and Bowen conservatively puts the sports park’s annual economic impact closer to $1.75 million.
“It’s a big deal for Bixby,” Bowen said.
Just four years after its completion, the 115-acre sports park has become a primary economic driver for the city and significant quality-of-life amenity.
“In the last 10 years, Bixby’s population has grown about 60 percent,” Bowen said. “We have been, for five years, the fastest-growing city in Oklahoma, and for 10 years, we’ve been in the top three.
“The No. 1 reason people pick Bixby is our school system, and the No. 2 reason is our quality of life. Bentley Park plays a big part in that.”
Now Bowen, other city leaders…

Increase in Calls Lead to Dedicated Ambulance for Bixby

Story by Robert Garrison found on

EMSA announced Monday that due to an increase in call volume, they will provide a dedicated ambulance to Bixby.

The ambulance will be stationed in the downtown area and respond to service calls within the city of Bixby from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

EMSA currently serves the fast growing southern Tulsa County suburb but does not have an assigned ambulance for the area.

“We want to work with the city to make sure our services are always within easy access,” EMSA Spokesperson Chris Stevens said. “Seconds count in this business.”

The dedicated unit begins service on Monday, April 23, 2012.

Continuing to lead the way with Hybrid TV, Entone, Inc. is teaming with BTC Broadband to explore a new Broadband TV (BBTV) service model in Bixby, Oklahoma.

With FusionTV(TM), BTC Broadband can offer a new BBTV service that combines live Over the Air (OTA) television programs and full digital video recorder (DVR) capabilities, with additional cloud-based media services that includes VUDU’s streaming library of over 50,000 titles and more than 50 popular online applications, such as photo sharing from Flickr and Picasa, and social media via Facebook and Twitter.

“Our FTTH deployment is a key technological differentiator for our services,” said Scott Floyd, Director of Sales, Product Development & Customer Services at BTC Broadband. “With a product like Entone’s FusionTV, we can leverage our high-speed network to bring next-generation, broadband-centric services to market while also increasing our overall customer satisfaction with a rich and compelling TV service.”
