Elementary and middle school bands in the Bixby School District are increasing at lightening speed.

There are twice as many eighth grade band students, 79, as there are band members in the freshman class just ahead of them, the Class of 2015.

Challenging but good news is an increase in school enrollment has followed with an increase in the band program.  To accommodate the size of the eighth grade band, students now meet in the high school band room.  According to band director Jennifer Self, “We are impressed with the number of very talented students in this year’s eighth grade band. We are excited to see what they are able to accomplish this year.”

Forty-five eighth grade students  play woodwind instruments; 25, brass; nine, percussion.  Coming up, there are 100 seventh grade band members; 180,the  sixth grade band. Enrollment for the Pride of Bixby High School Band is 130.
